Rest: A Step of Faith

Rest: A Step of Faith

Rest: A Step of Faith

I usually send this letter on Wednesday. This week, Wednesday came and went while I was saying goodbye to my parents. I thought I might write when I got home, but grief and travel have left me tired in ways sleep hasn’t fixed yet.

To be honest, the whole week was a whirlwind. Friday night and Saturday morning were spent at a marriage conference. Saturday night was my husband’s 50th high school reunion. And Sunday we jumped on a plane headed to Idaho for the Monday funeral…back on the plane Tuesday evening. Home and back to production of my October newspaper edition. I feel beat up.

I haven’t had any time to process the elements of each event, however, looking at the past week, I think it went okay overall. I was incredibly blessed to visit, in person, with family I haven’t seen in years. Real hugs are valuable. Those are true connection.

Each experience opened past wounds. I hope over the month of October, I can honestly review the heartaches and put them to rest with forgiveness and let the Lord heal deeply and completely. I want to be free of everything that hinders my movement forward in what’s left of my life.

To do that, I have to be willing to face the pain. I’ll let the tears fall, wash down my cheeks. Like the tide taking sand and shells out to sea, may the hurts from long-ago empty themselves from the memory of my soul.

Then I will rest. Fully, I pray. Taking the time to rest will be a step of faith. I haven’t rested since 1990.
